Portland reports renewed interest in the gazebo

A trend that we have already noticed early this season is an increased interest in gazebos and we wondered if there was a particular reason behind it. We gently quizzed some of the people who had contacted Portland about its various garden houses, asking them to explain what was behind their interest in gazebos rather than summerhouses for their intended garden structures.

It quickly became apparent that the gazebo is deemed suitable for a wide range of purposes. One of the most innovative and certainly the most interesting was from someone who intended to fit a hob tub into their open sided gazebo. Lots of people want to use theirs for when they cook outdoors. Of course not everybody had such ambitious intentions. Popular answers were somewhere to sit with a cup of tea and watch the local wildlife and to sit back, relax and enjoy the garden. At Portland we always welcome such feedback on how people actually use their Portland as it is something that we can then use in our literature.

Although those surveyed all intended to use their gazebo for different purposes, the reasons that they gave for choosing the Portland Brampton gazebo were remarkably similar. They all wanted something that looked stylish and had chosen the DIY option as they wanted something easy to build and they wanted their gazebo to be versatile. Common to the answers we received was that many people are interested in something that they can personalise.

A substantial number of people expressed their concerns about the environment. It was important to them that they were buying either a wooden summerhouse or a wooden gazebo that it had been sourced from sustainable sources. At Portland we are happy to report that our timber garden buildings are only sourced from suppliers who guarantee that their products and materials originate from mills that observe and commit to all relevant environmental and conservation laws with their country origin.

Interesting fact - the earliest known outdoor gazebos were found in ancient Egypt 7000 years ago. In that time they have evolved, from the answers we received from our customers it looks like they are continuing to be as popular as ever.

Still a chance of snow but we are already delivering summerhouses

Everyone likes wooden houses and Portland Blogger is extremely pleased to announce that notwithstanding the dramas reported at 6pm every night along with forecasts of heavy snow at 6.30 pm, there are buds already appearing on the trees at the Portland factory and more importantly there has been an earlier than usual boost to levels of enquiries for this season’s Portland summerhouses.

Now everyone knows that Portland supplies seriously affordable DIY garden structures that are superior quality, high specification and great for all sorts of uses. Our summerhouse team has had several conversations over the past two weeks about how to make a suitable space for a home office – what better place to work from than the peace and quiet of your own garden, just far away from the house to be “out at work” but at the same time achieve seriously big carbon footprint points! One client has just specific delivery requirements for a wooden gazebo so it can be installed and ready to use as the centre point for a grandchild’s birthday, worrying that it is too late for May – no problems at all for the Portland summerhouse team, although all Portland garden structures are handcrafted it only takes approximately four weeks from taking the order to make the building and deliver - we just hope they get good weather!

The new brochure

It’s been only one week since the launch of our new Portland conservatories brochure and we are already receiving extremely good, positive feedback from potential clients. Big and glossy it’s a great coffee table book filled with photography of the four traditional conservatory models – gable, hipped, octagonal, lean-to as well as the introduction of the stunning Portland orangery. Traditional in design with a low pitched atrium roof it really works well with contemporary interiors and the wide opening bi-fold conservatory door are excellent for all that entertaining in the warmer months!!

We are also very excited to now be offering DIY orangeries as well as DIY conservatories and even better, for those who don’t want to go the self build route they can take advantage of Portland’s Premier full or partial build services. Why not engage one of Portland’s dedicated project managers to oversee all or some of the associated processes from start to finish – I know I would!! There are also full details of Portland’s dry base conservatory system– a high tech steel system which is s a modern alternative to traditional brickwork bases and fully compliant with Building Regulations – it’s all high tech stuff!
